What is the difference between editorial and commercial use?
Editorial use means the image appears in a context that informs or reports — a magazine article, a blog post, a news story. It cannot be used to sell or promote a product or service. Commercial use means the image is connected to a product, brand, advertisement, or promotion of any kind. When in doubt: if your brand or logo appears alongside the image, or the image helps sell something, it is commercial.
Can I use one image across multiple platforms with one license?
Yes — a license can be written to cover multiple specified platforms (your website, Instagram, and a printed brochure, for example) under a single agreement, as long as all platforms and uses are declared upfront. Using an image beyond the agreed scope requires a new or amended license and an additional fee.
What happens when my license expires?
You must stop using the image and remove it from any active materials when the license period ends. A renewal reminder will be sent in advance. Continued use without a valid license constitutes copyright infringement and may result in an invoice for retroactive licensing or legal action.
Do you offer discounts for multiple images?
Yes. Licensing 3 or more images for the same use, territory, and duration typically qualifies for a bundle discount of 10–20%. Please mention the number of images in your inquiry. Discounts do not apply to exclusive licenses.
How should I credit the image?
For editorial use, credit should read: © Elton Browne Photography placed adjacent to or directly beneath the image. For commercial licenses, credit requirements are agreed in the license document — some clients arrange metadata-only credit with no visible attribution. This is always negotiable and confirmed in writing.
Can I commission a custom shoot instead of licensing an existing image?
Absolutely. Elton is available for commissioned photography in Curaçao and the wider Caribbean, covering drinks, food, hospitality, real estate, and commercial subjects. Assignment pricing is quoted separately based on scope. Use the contact page to start that conversation.
What if I have already used an image without a license?
Contact Elton as soon as possible. Retroactive licensing is available in many cases and is handled professionally — provided you act before the matter escalates. The retroactive fee is typically calculated at the standard rate for the period of use.
